OUR STORY

Here at MOPS, we gather and support mums. We believe in the simple but revolutionary idea that remarkable things happen when mums come together.

 

Our acronym stands for “Mothers of Preschoolers” because we began in 1973 when a group of mums with young children in Colorado banded together to share their lives and parenting journeys. Over the past 50 years, MOPS has expanded our reach to include ALL mums.

The first MOPS group in Australia was started in 1992. MOPS continued to grow here and we became a separate affiliated organisation, MOPS Australia Inc. in 2000. After running like this with the support of MOPS International for 22 years, we made the decision to merge back with MOPS International in 2022. We are one of over 70 countries that MOPS operates in- a truly Global Sisterhood.

OUR MISSION

MOPS International encourages and equips mums of young children to realise their potential as mothers, women and leaders, in relationship with Jesus, and in partnership with the local church.

We are…

  1. Jesus Followers: We are compelled by the movement of Jesus Christ and invite others to explore their own faith journey toward him. John 14:6

  2. Kingdom Enthusiasts: We believe in God’s redemptive work in the world which encourages us to be playful in spirit, generous at heart and faith-filled in confession. Matthew 6:33

  3. Advocates: We are passionate proponents for the value of motherhood and the influence of women. Proverbs 31:8-9

  4. Expansive: Every mum has a place with us. We uphold a boldness of inclusion because we know there is room for a vast collage of women who thirst for Jesus. Revelation 22:17

  5. Known by What We Are For: We look to Jesus’ footsteps for how to walk through the world, which allows us to be radically gracious in expression and association. Matthew 22:36-40

  6. Multilingual: We lead communication of a timeless message to a culture of many diverse voices, dialects and backgrounds. 1 Corinthians 9:22

  7. Sisterhood Cultivators: We build circles of women who love each other like family, because we believe in the transformative potential of relationships and mentoring. Hebrews 10:25
